A Vibrant Deepavali Celebration from the Students of Wesley Methodist School Kuala Lumpur

On the 27th of November 2023, in a remarkable display of unity and cultural appreciation, the Counselling Unit orchestrated a vibrant Deepavali celebration that brought together students from our two schools, fostering a deeper understanding of this significant festival while displaying the diverse talents within the community. 

The collaborative effort between students from both WMSKLP and WMSKLI aimed to not only enhance comprehension and appreciation of the Deepavali celebration but also provided a platform for students to display their unique talents and skills through a myriad of captivating performances. 

The festivities commenced with a poignant prayer led by Mdm. Pricilla, the Principal of WMSKLP, followed by an insightful speech delivered by Mr. Wong Chee Kheon, the Principal of WMSKLI. These opening remarks set the tone for an event that aimed to highlight the essence of Deepavali, emphasizing the values of friendship and unity inherent in all festivals through a meaningful video presentation. 

The stage came alive with a burst of energy as WMSKLP students and teachers kicked off the celebration with an energetic opening dance medley. The audience was then enthralled by the captivating Dhamaaka Dance performed by WMSKLI Year 10 students along with some teachers, followed by the Dance Club’s vibrant performance, the Dance of Lights, infusing the celebration with infectious energy. 

A cultural touch was added to the festivities with a fashion walk featuring traditional Indian costumes, elegantly showcased by students and teachers from both schools. The event concluded on an interactive note with Deepavali-themed trivia quizzes that sparked excitement and engagement among the audience, encouraging participation and learning. 

The Malaysian Cultural Club played a pivotal role in transforming the hall into a visually captivating space, enhancing the celebratory atmosphere. To further immerse themselves in the occasion, students and teachers adorned themselves in traditional attires, creating a colorful and festive ambiance. Additionally, Deepavali snack bags were distributed to all classes after the event, spreading the joyous spirit of the festival. 

This Deepavali celebration served as a catalyst, not only deepening cultural understanding but also fostering unity and joy among students and teachers. It was a testament to the power of collaboration, cultural appreciation, and shared experiences in creating a harmonious and vibrant community. 

The spirit of Deepavali arrived earlier that month for our teachers and staff with a heartwarming celebration. Many of them donned their finest traditional attire, creating a kaleidoscope of color and cultural expression. The event commenced with a solemn opening prayer, followed by a thought-provoking speech from Mr. Wong Chee Kheon, the Principal of WMSKLI. Highlighting the significance of Deepavali and the importance of community, Mr. Wong’s words resonated deeply with all those gathered. 

A feast for the senses followed, as teachers and staff were treated to an array of delectable cultural dishes, snacks, and desserts. Each bite was a journey through the vibrant flavors of Diwali, reminding everyone of the festival’s spirit of abundance and joy. 

But the celebration did not stop there! Festive music also filled the room, weaving a vibrant tapestry of sound that set the mood for laughter and merriment. And to add a touch of surprise and excitement, the event featured multiple lucky draw sessions, showering our dedicated staff and teachers with a variety of prizes. 

The day was a resounding success, a testament to the strong bond within the WMSKL(I) community. It was a time to celebrate not only Deepavali’s radiant light but also the unwavering dedication and passion of our teachers who illuminate the lives of their students every day.
